The Ahl loop…

Ahl is just one of the many places where you can experience wide, maintained walking paths, beaches and forest all in one walk.

Rosie and I will often walk this loop from home and around the Ahl peninsula. Our latest walk took us 8.82km however, you need not walk so far as the walking and cycling paths around Ahl are designed in such a way that you can tailor your walk to be as long or short as you like.

Sometimes we will walk all the way around, following the coast to the 4 wind turbines at the Øer ferry terminal. The only problem here is that we need to get back to Ebeltoft – fortunately Rosie is a fit little girl and can manage the walk home again.

For a shorter walk, you can drive and park in the large car parking area and walk the main loop path which takes you out toward to north-western coastline and back around the east-bound route, passing through the rest area where you can also find some historical information about Ahl. The path continues encompassing fantastic views of Ebeltoft and then back around toward the carpark. A great walk for the smaller or older, less mobile dogs 🙂

If you’re planning on walking from Ebeltoft to Ahl, there is a well maintained walking / cycling path running from Skudehavn all the way to the main cark-park area. Walking from Ebeltoft Rådhus to the Ahl car-park should take around 1/2 hour.

“The southern coast is more remote but for some, this is the more attractive option when out walking.”

If you’re planning on a longer walk, then there are plenty of options to walk either inland through wooded paths or around the amazing coastline where the crystal clear water on a sunny day sparkles against the backdrop of Ebeltoft Bay (Ebeltoft Vig). If you walk around the south-western side of the peninsula and keep following the coast, then you will be limited on the amount of options to walk back inland other than following roads. The southern coast is more remote but for some, this is the more attractive option when out walking.

So however long or short you want to take your pooch (sjovt navn til hunde på engelsk) walking, Ahl certainly has a bit of everything but please be aware that parts of this coastline and the bay area are designated as a wildlife reserve for birds so please ensure your dog(s) are always under control and/or on a leash.
